Rider Levett Bucknall

The Project
Johnsons Moving Services relocated staff at Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) from their existing site at Millennium Point in May 2013. Following the relocation, Johnsons were asked to provide a zero landfill recycling service for 267 items (circa 8,107kg) of redundant furniture and effects to ensure RLB achieved an SKa rating for the overall project.

Criteria to meet SKa rating:

At least 80% of the workstations and tables are:

  • Reused;
  • Recycled; or
  • Diverted from landfill

Guidance for reuse was broken down into three key areas:

Reuse within the fitout project or elsewhere within the organisation
Donation to charities, schools, etc.
Sale to smaller companies and start up organisations, etc.

Items disposed of included:

99 Desks and Tables
31 Units of Storage
31 Side Returns/Desk Extensions
5 Meeting Tables
93 Chairs/Seating
31 Whiteboards

The Result
Through our formulated and integrated Recycling Procedures and Zero Landfill Policy, we achieved 100% landfill avoidance. This was achieved by donating all of the furniture to our furniture partners, who reuse the furniture in the second hand furniture market. This enabled us to exceed the SKa rating of 80% and our company target for a recycling project of 95% by saving:

CO2 3,069 kg
No. of Trees 135
Cubic yards of Landfill 58.97 YD3

Due to the items of metal recycled, we were also able to provide Rider Levett Bucknall with cost reimbursements.
