Wolverhampton City Council

The Project
The relocation of irreplaceable archive documents for Wolverhampton Archive. The material was relocated to a £7.5 million grade II listed Georgian, state-of-the-art storage area in Wolverhampton.

Johnsons Moving Services were awarded the contract to relocate the Wolverhampton City Council Archives from a dilapidated building into a new purpose built Archive and Artefacts storage facility in Wolverhampton.

After initial meetings and consultations, this move was planned to be undertaken over a 30-day period. The move involved relocating hundreds of thousands of maps, books, photographs, Census returns, newspapers and business records in a secure, safe and methodical manner into the new storage system and areas at the new facility.

This move involved using specialist packing, casing, wrapping and the provision of specialist packing materials for the relocation to be undertaken. Throughout this move there were access issues to overcome which we achieved successfully. The move program was then condensed and needed to be completed within a strict 20 day time period.

The move was then re-planned with additional resources and we are pleased to say that we successfully completed the move in 18 days.
